  • Summary

This session will focus on employer sponsorship programs through both the career center and employer lens. Panelists will include two career center professionals who host and two employer representatives who actively engage in employer sponsorship programs through career centers. Discussion will focus on identifying and defining the main problems that employer sponsorship programs solve for career centers and employers. For example, such programs can prioritize employers for employer relations teams to highlight. They are also a way to generate revenue and build lasting partnerships that deliver results for employers.

From the employer perspective, sponsorship programs can address such problems as navigating the bureaucracy of higher education institutions, standing out from competitors, and ensuring customized solutions to reach target audiences. Attendees will discover if and how an employer sponsorship program could solve the unique problems of their institution/organization. The panel will also delve into how different universities have customized their sponsorship programs to meet the needs of their stakeholders and employers.

From the career center perspective, panelists will share their process for researching, involving stakeholders, and developing their sponsorship programs. From the employer perspective, employers will share how they analyze the benefits and ROI of participating in a sponsorship program. In addition, different employer sponsorship models will be shared with the audience.

The final part of the discussion will focus on how an employer sponsorship program could benefit those beyond the career center, employers, and students. We will discuss the institutional ecosystem and partners that could help (or hinder) the development of a sponsorship program. Participants will be encouraged to assemble a list of who they might involve to start an employer sponsorship program.
