Kick off Session 1: The Evolution and Potential Impacts of AI Tools 

 Join us for a kickoff session led by industry experts and thought leaders to explore the applications of AI and to help participants navigate the changing landscape of their profession. This webinar aims to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the evolution of AI tools, highlight their potential benefits and challenges, and offer practical insights for leveraging AI in career services and recruitment.  

By the end of this webinar, participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the evolution and potential impacts of AI tools in career services and recruitment. They will leave with actionable insights, best practices, and practical strategies to harness the power of AI to optimize their workflows, improve candidate experiences, and navigate the ever-changing landscape of their profession. 

Session 2: How to use AI in Career Services and Recruitment

 Attendees will learn the ways that members are already using ChatGPT and other Artificial Intelligence tools to maximize their capacity. This session will provide tangible ways to integrate AI tools and the potential impacts on the work force.

Session 3: Navigating the Ethical Landscape: AI Tools and Their Implications

This panel discussion aims to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of the ethical dimensions of AI tools, foster meaningful discussions, and offer practical insights for navigating this rapidly evolving landscape. Experts in the field will shed light on various aspects of AI ethics and guide attendees towards responsible and inclusive AI practices. 

Participants will have a deeper understanding of the ethical dimensions of using AI tools and be equipped with practical strategies for navigating ethical challenges in their respective domains. The event will provide a platform for engaging discussions, networking opportunities, and the sharing of best practices to promote responsible and ethical AI adoption. 

Session 4: Exploring the Impact of AI Features in Career Services and Employer Professionals' Day-to-Day Work 

Join us for a reflection roundtable discussion centered around the application of AI features in the daily operations of career service and employer professionals. This session will briefly review our Spring AI Quick Poll and aim to explore the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and its evolving role in revolutionizing the field. 

Varun Puri, a renowned expert in the field of AI, will be a featured speaker during this session. He will showcase how AI can enhance conversation, presentation, and interviewing skills, providing valuable insights into the practical implementation of AI in career services and employer professionals' day-to-day work. By highlighting real-life examples and success stories, Varun Puri will demonstrate how AI technologies can effectively optimize communication strategies and improve overall outcomes.

To conclude this session, participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences, and learn from one another's perspectives. This final session will foster an open dialogue that explores both the benefits and ethical considerations associated with incorporating AI features into daily work routines.

Shawn VanDerziel, President & Chief Executive Officer, NACE
As president and chief executive officer of the National Association of Colleges and Employers, Shawn VanDerziel leads the association of 18,000 college career services professionals, university relations and recruiting professionals, and business solution providers that serve the community. As a leading voice on the employment of the college educated and advocate for equitable outcomes for all students, VanDerziel is featured regularly as an industry expert and is a sought-after speaker on a range of topics, including internships, hiring, career readiness, and trends in the workforce and college job market. Prior to joining the NACE staff, VanDerziel was with the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago for 23 years, where he most recently served as chief human resources officer and as chief of staff. His earlier roles included corporate recruiting with Norrell Corporation and a position in higher education as associate director of student enrollment at National Louis University.

Louis Hickman, Assistant Professor, Virginia Tech
Dr. Louis Hickman is an assistant professor of industrial-organizational psychology at Virginia Tech and a Senior Fellow at University of Pennsylvania's Wharton People Analytics. His research focuses on applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence to organizational science and practice, including issues of bias and fairness. His work has been published in journals such as Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, and Organizational Research Methods. His research has received multiple awards, including a Society for Human Resource Management Foundation Award for his dissertation, Algorithmic Ability Prediction in Video Interviews. He serves on the editorial board of Journal of Applied Psychology and Organizational Research Methods. Additionally, he has chaired multiple symposia on machine learning and served as principal investigator for two grants from the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology—one addressing “Algorithmic racial bias in automated video interviews” and another applying machine learning to new workplace domains, “Automatic scoring of interpersonal assessment center simulations: Effects of reliability and saturation on validity.”

Suzanne Helbig, Associate Vice Provost, University of California - Irvine - Division of Career Pathways
Suzanne Helbig is the associate vice provost at the University of California, Irvine’s Division of Career Pathways. In her role, she leads the central career services operation that provides services for UC Irvine’s highly diverse undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education students as well as its recent alumni. Prior to working at UC Irvine, Helbig held leadership, strategic communications, and career advising roles at the University of California, Berkeley’s Career Center. Helbig served on the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Board of Directors, and her NACE involvement includes co-chairing committees; presenting at NACE’s inaugural Executive Leadership Symposium; delivering numerous annual conference presentations; and authoring articles and a book chapter. Helbig served on the Board of Directors of MPACE (Mountain Pacific Association of Colleges and Employers) and was awarded its Outstanding Service Award in 2017. Helbig was the Programme Chair for Global Career Services Summits in 2021 (online), 2020 (Singapore) and 2018 (Newcastle, UK). Helbig has been invited to speak at conferences in England, Ireland, Japan, and China. She has been interviewed by the New York Times, Inside Higher Ed, Fox News, ABC News, the San Francisco Chronicle, Time Magazine, New American Media, and the Orange County Register.  Helbig holds a Master of Arts in higher education from the University of Arizona.

Matthew Brink, Chief Programs and Content Officer, NACE
Matthew Brink is chief content and programs officer for the National Association of Colleges and Employers. He oversees professional development services, meetings and events, content, and all research initiatives. An experienced professional in the field, Brink has overseen career services in a variety of institutions, including, most recently, the University of Delaware, and has been active in employer-focused activities.

Cari Walker, Professional Development Specialist, NACE
Dr. Cari Walker is the Assistant Director of Learning and Professional Development at NACE, where she specializes in adult learning and plays a key role in designing educational experiences for NACE members. With her background as an Instructional Coach for teachers, she has a strong ability to support educators in the classroom and create tailored learning experiences to help adult learners achieve their professional growth goals. Outside of her work at NACE, Cari is a dedicated wife and mother to four girls. She and her family share a love for travel, exploration, and everything related to nature.

Chris Miciek, Director, Center for Career Success, Thomas Jefferson University
In 2002, Chris Mickiek began building the first 100% online career center in the United States, pioneering online technology and social media to deliver career development advising and instruction. Since that start, he has presented at the NACE conference as well as state and regional ACEs on online career services and emerging technology; this included creating a keynote panel focusing on emerging technologies at MWACE 2007 and leading a NACE President's Tech Summit at the 2009 annual conference. He co-authored a contribution to the Cases in Career Services: A Working Guide for Practitioners on navigating mergers and has created podcasts, articles, and webinars on AI. Miciek served on the NACE Principles for Professional Ethical Practice Committee during 2020-21 and has served as co-chair of EACE’s Technology Committee since 2019. He earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Calvin College and a master’s in psychology with an emphasis on systems and research at Wesleyan University. He continues to stare at the horizon.
