Are you looking for ways to develop a new apprenticeship program? Do you have questions about the Department of Labor’s new initiatives?

Join a representative from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship to discuss ways in which universities and their students can benefit from developing apprenticeship programs. Apprenticeship programs combine on-the-job learning with classroom training. They offer students on-the-job learning, related classroom instruction, a paycheck, and credits toward completing their postsecondary degree. This program is not an unpaid internship, but rather an opportunity for students to get a foot in the door at a company that supports in-house, upward mobility in many industries including health care, tourism and hospitality, IT, transportation, advanced manufacturing, financial services, and construction. The DOL is looking to engage both four-year institutions and employers to create apprenticeship programs to help increase experiential learning opportunities for students. The DOL representative will discuss the process and support in place to create a new program.

Following this program, you will be able to:

• Create an apprenticeship program using DOL guidelines;
• Describe the benefits for both students and employers in creating an apprenticeship program; and,
• Expand your resources and connections for collaboration to ensure the career readiness of today’s graduates.
