Approximately 40,000 students participated in an organized gap year program during 2015, up 22 percent from 2014. Gap year experiences can serve as a structured break from formal education for students to increase self-awareness, challenge comfort zones, and experiment with possible careers. Join the presenters on a guided exploration of the growing gap year phenomenon, the makeup of gap year students, types of gap year experiences, career readiness competencies developed during a gap year, and best practices for advising a student returning from or considering a gap year.
