• Summary

  According to the 2021 Caregiving in a Diverse America survey, one in five Americans provide care to an adult or child, and many do so while balancing care and work. As the U.S. population continues to age, demand for caregivers—especially in the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) community—will rise. How might this impact APIDA professionals’ career growth, and how can organizations support them? Join our interactive panel as APIDA professionals share their lived experiences navigating their identities.

  Following this program, you will be able to:

  • Understand the impact of caregiving responsibilities on the career growth of APIDA professionals in the United States;
  • Explore the increasing demand for caregivers within the APIDA community as the U.S. population ages; and
  • Identify strategies and organizational support mechanisms that can help APIDA professionals balance caregiving and career responsibilities.

• Format

  During this one-hour webinar, the presenter will deliver a synchronized audio and PowerPoint presentation. Participants will have time for live Q&A throughout the program and may be asked to contribute opinions or feedback via live chat, virtual polling, and other mechanisms.

  Grace Park, Associate Director, Career Services, Claremont McKenna College

  Grace Park has been a career counselor for nearly 20 years and has worked with undergraduate, graduate and doctoral candidates across a variety of disciplines ranging from arts to science and everything in between. She is currently Associate Director, Career Services at Claremont McKenna College and has previously worked at UCLA, USC School of Social Work, Mount St. Mary’s University and taught an incoming freshman summer career course at UCSB. She has a side business as a Certified Gallup Clifton Strengths Coach of which she does presentations for staff/team retreats at companies/organizations and leadership trainings for student leaders at colleges/universities. She has been a member of NACE since 2007 and was a past Co-Lead for the APIDA Affinity Group and is currently a member of the NACE DEI Committee. She is a proud alumna of UCSB with a Film Studies degree and a Master of Social Welfare degree from UC Berkeley. Grace loves mentoring, inspiring and guiding students and helping them untangle all the confusion and layered questions they have about career decision making. It is never lost on her how scary and daunting this process was for her, something that hasn’t changed for students today.

  

  Gerald Tang, Executive Director,Career Services & Internships Office, Bridgewater State University

  Dr. Gerald Tang serves as the inaugural Executive Director for the Career Services and Internships Office as he continues to amplify the BSU Works effort. With extensive experience in higher education, Gerald brings together rich experiences working at various institutions, including St. Francis College, Baruch College/CUNY, Columbia University, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Carnegie Mellon University, La Roche University, and Susquehanna University. Most recently, Gerald was the inaugural Assistant Dean for Career Integration at St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY. During his tenure, he helped reimagine career services operations and provide a strategic vision to develop forward-thinking career development practices. As a first generation Chinese American, Gerald received his doctoral degree from Maryville University of St. Louis, his master’s degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and his bachelor’s degree from Binghamton University/SUNY. His research interests include Asian American college presidency, international students’ career development, transfer student career success, DEIB issues, and technology integration in career services. Gerald is currently serving as the D&I director for EACE, one of the co-leads for NACE’s APIDA Professionals and Allies affinity group, and part of the NACE 2025 annual conference planning team.

  

  Rachana Vyas, Career Development Pathway Director, Thrive Scholars

  Rachana currently serves as the Life Sciences and Healthcare Career Pathway Director at Thrive Scholars. In this role, Rachana focuses on increasing opportunities and reducing barriers for students who are interested in pursuing careers in healthcare, research, and Life Sciences industry spaces. Before joining Thrive Scholars, Rachana served as the inaugural Assistant Director at the UC Berkeley Career Engagement Center for students pursuing Life and Physical Sciences degrees. She focused on coaching, developing career readiness programming, and building connections with industry professionals and alumni. Prior to UC Berkeley, Rachana held various roles across the Consumer, Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, and Technology sectors at companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Credit Suisse, and Visa. Rachana received her Bachelors of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University while participating in career leadership academies through the INROADS Organization. She was raised in Philadelphia and currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband and 2 kids.
