  • Summary

    If you have a degree in engineering, computer sciences, or the hard sciences, you can take the Office’s Registration Exam to become a Patent Agent. The Exam is available virtually on-demand. Becoming a patent agent can also be a step toward becoming a Patent Attorney.

    If this sounds intriguing, join Practising Law Institute (PLI) for a presentation by Mark Dighton, PLI's Director of Law School Relations and a Director of their Patent Office Exam Course.

    Topics will include:

    • Careers for patent agents;
    • The qualities and skills you’ll need;
    • The latest info on the Patent Office’s Registration Exam.

    Following this program, you will be able to:

    • Understand career options in the patent field;
    • Find out a little bit about the US Patent Office exam that is a gateway to these careers; and
    • Consider whether going on to law school might be an option (though not necessary).
  • Career Level: Basic-, intermediate-, and advanced-level career services, university relations and recruiting, and business affiliate professionals
