Employers Continue to Recruit in Fall but Adjust Timing of Offers

Employers continue to recruit in the fall but have made significant adjustments to the timing of their offers, according to NACE’s 2025 Recruiting Benchmarks Report.

Approximately 70% of employers responding to the survey said they recruit for full-time and internship positions in both fall and spring, which is in line with what we found in our 2023 survey. There is even a slight uptick in the number focusing their recruiting in the fall and pulling back on spring. (See Figures 1 and 2.)

In terms of offers, however, there have been significant shifts in the timing: Among respondents to the 2023 survey, 81% of their offers were extended in fall (65%) and winter (16%). Currently, slightly less than 64% of offers were made in fall and winter. Instead, current respondents delayed more than one-third of their offers to spring and summer, up from 19% in 2023. (See Figure 3.)

The 2025 Recruiting Benchmarks Report is an analysis of the data acquired through the 2025 NACE Recruiting Benchmarks Survey, conducted April 21 through May 23, 2025, and distributed to 790 organizations holding NACE membership; 197 NACE members participated, a 24.9% response rate. In addition, 15 nonmember companies responded to the survey. The majority of respondents recruit in the United States for U.S. positions only, and more than half represent organizations with more than 5,000 employees. NACE members can access the 2025 Recruiting Benchmarks Report through MyNACE.
