GoGovernment – Advising Approaches for Federal Government Careers

• Join the Partnership for Public Service to receive an overview of GoGovernment resources for higher education professionals and job seekers pursuing careers in the federal government. Receive an introduction on navigating USAJOBS.gov, the federal hiring landscape, resources available now for your students, and specialized professional development on federal advising.

• Summary

  How can career advisors connect students and alumni to federal government careers? What opportunities exist for students pursuing a career in government? Learn more from the Partnership for Public Service, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization with the mission to build a better government and stronger democracy. Learn how to engage with the Call to Serve Network, the only national network collaborating with both federal agencies and hundreds of institutions of higher education working to promote federal service and recruit the next generation of public servants. 

  Following this program, you will be able to:

  • Learn about federal advising resources available through GoGovernment.org and the Call to Serve Network;
  • Learn more about pathways into federal government and federal internship opportunities, including the Future Leaders in Public Service program; and
  • Learn about the Federal Advisor Certificate program, a professional development asynchronous course created for higher education professionals.

  Registration includes three-month, post-event access to the webinar archive.

• Format

  During this one-hour webinar, the presenter will deliver a synchronized audio and PowerPoint presentation. Participants will have time for live Q&A throughout the program and may be asked to contribute opinions or feedback via live chat, virtual polling, and other mechanisms.

  Danica Harootian, Senior Manager, Federal Workforce Programs, Partnership for Public Service

  Danica Harootian (Senior Manager) works with the Partnership’s Call to Serve Network, connecting higher education professionals and federal agencies to promote federal service and recruit the next generation of public servants. She leads the Future Leaders in Public Service Internship Program, placing around 200 students per year in paid internships across government. Danica’s professional background includes managing international education and global exchange programs, and her time with the Fulbright program motivates her work to improve pathways into public service. Her favorite public servant is Samantha Power, current Administrator of the United States Agency of International Development and an inspiring human rights scholar and advocate.

  

  Katy Hogan, Director, Federal Workforce Programs, Partnership for Public Service

  Katy Hogan (Director) leads the Partnership’s strategy to inspire the next generation to consider a career in public service. In her role, she manages several key federal internship programs and oversees the Call to Serve network of colleges and universities. Previously, she directed Ohio State University’s Washington, DC, internship and fellowship programs through the John Glenn College of Public Affairs, welcoming 75+ students to Washington annually for career-launching internship experiences. Hogan also worked on a U.S. State Department program that sends high school students abroad to learn critical languages. Through this work, she developed a passion for building high-impact professional programs and supporting the career development of aspiring public servants.
