NACE Privacy Policy

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) has created this privacy statement to demonstrate its respect for the privacy of its members and visitors of NACEWeb. This notice explains how NACE and the NACE Center for Career Development and Talent Acquisition (the NACE Center) collect and process your Personal Data. Each time you use our Site, the current version of this Notice will apply. Accordingly, whenever you use our Site, you should check the date of this Notice and review any changes. This Notice is applicable to all NACE members and all other users of our Site.

By visiting www.naceweb.org or related properties (collectively “the Site”), you acknowledge that you have read and understood the processes and policies referred to in this Policy.

NACE is an organization based in the United States. For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 (“GDPR”), the data controller is the National Association of Colleges and Employers, registered in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, with an office at 1 E Broad Street, Ste 130 – 1005, Bethlehem, PA 18018-5934 USA. The NACE Center for Career Development and Talent Acquisition has also adopted this Privacy Policy. Where your data is being collected and used by the NACE Center, all references to NACE herein shall mean the NACE Center.

HOW WE COLLECT PERSONAL DATA

NACE collects a variety of Personal Data for our services as elaborated below. Personal information is anything that enables us to identify you, directly or indirectly, by reference to an identifier such as your name, identification number, location data, online identifier or other factors specific to you, including physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity.

Through the Site, NACE collects Personal Data through a variety of forms. There are forms for visitors to request products, services, promotional materials, or membership information. There are forms that request financial information in order to bill for products or services ordered. Unique identifiers (specifically, your NACE password or member number) are collected from members to verify the user’s identity and for use in NACE’s record system.

Information from these forms is also used by NACE to send you information about products, services, conferences, and other information that may be of interest to you.
NACE communications contain an opt-out link that you can use. If you have difficulty using that opt-out link, you can indicate your preferences in your account profile or contact NACE Customer Service at customerservice@naceweb.org.

Personal Data that you give us:
Through NACE’s forms, you may provide Personal Data to us such as your name, home and/or work email address, postal address, phone number and/or fax number, your employer and job title, demographic information about you including birth year, certification designation, and in the event of a financial transaction, your credit card information. This information is only required if you are utilizing any of the products and services on NACE’s sites. This information is kept for no longer than is necessary for the purposes for which the personal data is processed. Once the purpose is nonexistent, the data is removed.

We may collect and process the following Personal Data:

  • Contact Information: You provide contact information when corresponding with us by phone, email or otherwise. This includes information you provide when you participate in discussion boards or other social media functions on our Site and when you report a problem with our Site. The information you give us may include your name, address, email address (business or personal), phone number, financial information and/or credit card information.
  • NACE Membership Applications: You are sharing Personal Information with us when you join NACE or renew your NACE membership through the NACE websites. NACE members will have NACE membership log-in credentials which enable members to take advantage of restricted content and features on NACE websites. The information you give us may include your name, address, email address (business or personal), phone number, age, job title, government identification numbers, year of admission any other information related to your membership. Membership information may be provided by you during the registration process, or by your employer on your behalf.
  • Payment Information: You provide your financial information such as credit/debit card and account numbers used to register or renew membership.
  • Other Registration: When registering for specific services we may ask for the same type of Personal Information. For example, if you subscribe to an email newsletter or register for an event, we will ask you to provide your email address.
  • Purchase Information: You provide details of transactions when you purchase products and services from NACE. This includes the purchase of registrations to events, books, reports, journals, newsletter subscriptions, either in person, over the phone or via our Site. Purchase information will include financial information as well as information concerning the content and time of the purchase. The number and variety of products and services that may require the collection of purchase information about you will continue to grow in the future.
  • Certification Information: You provide details of your educational courses and certification programs. This may include extensive information about the experience / performance of those certified or accredited. Where the certification concerns an institution or business, this may include similar information identifying employees and other members of staff, including volunteers.

Personal Data we collect from you:

  • Technical information: NACE tracks IP addresses to measure traffic on its sites. For these purposes, information that is collected relates to each time a visitor uses a NACE site, a visitor’s browser type and version, time zone settings, browser plug-in types, operating system, and platform type. NACE does not use IP address to determine any user’s identity. This information is only used for research purposes to determine what sections of the NACE sites are popular.
  • Information about your visit: NACE tracks the pages you viewed or searched for, page response times, download errors, length of visits to certain pages, page integration information such as scrolling, clicks and mouse-overs, methods used to browse away from the page, and any phone number used to call our customer service number.

Personal Data we collect from others:
We may receive information about you from publicly available and third-party databases or services that provide information about business people that we believe will help us identify products and services that may be of interest to you. We will obtain your consent before contacting you if required by the law of the country in which you are located.

HOW WE USE YOUR DATA

We will only process your Personal Data, including sharing it with third parties, where you have provided consent which can be withdrawn at any time, the processing is necessary for the performance of a contract to which you are a party, we are required by law, processing is required to protect your vital interests or those of another person, or processing is necessary for the purposes of our legitimate commercial interests, except where such interests are overridden by your rights and interest.

Personal Data you give us:
We use the Personal Data you give us:

  • to carry out our obligations arising from your membership and any other agreement entered between you and us;
  • to update and renew your membership as required; 
  • to provide you with the information, products and services you request from us; 
  • to arrange and deliver conferences, events and programming relevant to your job and subjects of interest;
  • to respond to your questions and provide related membership or customer services;
  • to improve the NACE Websites;
  • to send you NACE publications, information about member benefits and special offers, and other information that NACE believes is relevant and useful to its members provided you have not opted out of receiving such information; 
  • to send you third party information that NACE believes is relevant and useful to you, where you have given your consent;
  • to notify you about changes to your membership or related services or to ask you to provide feedback; 
  • to enable you to partake in a prize draw, competition or complete a survey;
  • to administer and protect our business and websites (including troubleshooting, data analysis, testing, system maintenance, support, reporting and hosting of data);
  • to comply with all applicable laws or legal processes, including providing information on individual users to the appropriate governmental authorities where required by law enforcement or judicial authorities; and
  • to ensure that content from our Site is presented most effectively for you and your computer / device.

Data we collect about you:
Personal Data collected through NACE Websites is generally collected and maintained solely by NACE or its contracted vendors.

We may use your Personal Information in the following ways:

  • Membership: NACE reserves the right to sell or otherwise provide mailing/information lists concerning members to selected third-parties. If you wish to opt out of such list sales/distributions at any time during your NACE membership, you may do so by following the directions in your account profile. We will not share Personal Information relating to individuals based in the EU unless you have provided your opt-in consent.
    NACE does not sell email addresses to third-parties (except that NACE will rent a member email address if that member has expressly opted in to allow such rentals). 
  • Site Use Information: We disclose to third-party sponsors/advertisers aggregate statistics (i.e. impressions and click-throughs on a company's advertisement). In addition, we may share aggregate website statistics with the media or other third parties. We do not disclose Personal Information to these sponsors/advertisers or other third parties as part of this process, only information in an aggregate form.
  • The NACE Center: We also allow the NACE Center to use the information which you may provide when you register for services or products or when you join or renew membership in NACE, to the same extent as NACE may use such information under this Privacy Policy, and fully subject to the same limits as NACE is subject to on the use of such information under this Privacy Policy.

Data Collected in connection with Credentialing or Certification:
If you register for any credentialing or accreditation offerings, NACE uses any Personal Data you may provide in doing so in the same manner as we do when you register for other NACE products and services. Without limitation of the foregoing, NACE may use and disclose Personal Data, certification exam performance information, and/or assessment information related to any credentialing body in connection with:

  • providing details of individuals who have successfully completed any related requirements for the appropriate credentialing or accreditation;
  • sending notifications and reminders on the status of certification or other credential, information of professional development and recertification opportunities, and other news and communications of interest to the related community or those holding any related credential or certificate;
  • the scheduling and administration of exams; and
  • the preparation, review, updating, validation, accreditation and/or administration of the exams and exam preparation materials.

SITE USE INFORMATION

Cookies and IP Addresses
The use of cookies is an industry standard, and cookies are currently used on most major websites. Most web browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. If you prefer, you can reset your browser to notify you when you have received a cookie. You can also set your browser to refuse to accept cookies altogether. While NACE does not require you to use cookies, keep in mind that certain services will not function properly if you set your browser to refuse all cookies.

Outside Websites and Advertisers
The NACE sites contain links to other outside sources. NACE is not responsible for the privacy practices of such sites. Inclusion of links to an outside website, whether in an advertisement or content area of NACEWeb, is not an endorsement of that site or a guarantee that the information it contains is accurate.

NACE has no way of knowing whether the advertisements on any of its sites use cookies and cannot guarantee that if you click on an advertisement, you will not be required to accept a cookie from the advertiser. You should review those outside sites and/or advertisers to determine its policies regarding use of cookies.

Pursuant to the GDPR, NACE makes a commercially reasonable effort to ensure the operator of third party property complies with the above duties.

Email Addresses
NACE does not sell or rent email addresses to any individual or organization for commercial purposes. Contact information may be provided to a third party to facilitate delivery of NACE-related materials or as part of collaborative initiatives with other organizations; in such circumstances, the third party agrees not to sell or use the information except for the purposes for which NACE has contracted.

NACE Community
NACE makes networking and chat opportunities available to its members through the NACE Community. Any information that is disclosed in this area becomes public information, and you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal information. NACE cannot control the acts of its members who use this feature. If you disclose personal information, such as your name, email address, mailing address, and/or phone number, it may be used by other members for unsolicited email or other contact.

NACE collects all contact names and email addresses of subscribers and the dialogue generated. Dialogue on the NACE Community may be archived for later retrieval by a NACE member. Messages go to the archives as they are posted. NACE does not edit discussions provided through NACE Community

SECURITY

When users submit personally identifiable information via the website, the information is protected both online and offline. NACE websites have security measures equal to or better than those reasonably expected in the industry, such as firewalls, in place to protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of your Personal Data under our control. While we cannot guarantee that loss, misuse or alteration to data will not occur, we take reasonable precautions to prevent such unfortunate occurrences.

Incident Response
In the event of a data breach, NACE will contact local authorities within 72 hours after any breach personal information. NACE will also contact you of such a breach without undue delay. NACE promises to maintain and continue to invest in threat detection and avoidance technologies that allow us to respond to breaches.

YOUR RIGHTS

Opting Out of Mailing List & Directories
The National Association of Colleges and Employers provides members with the opportunity to take their names and organizations off the NACE mailing list or not to be included in membership mailing labels that NACE sells to other organizations. Members can choose to "opt out" of participating in this function.

Also, you can choose to omit having your personal and organizational information displayed on NACE's directories. NACE's directories are searchable databases of NACE members and are made available online to members of NACE.

If you no longer wish to receive some or all communications from NACE, no longer want to be included in the NACE membership mailing labels, or no longer want to be included in the NACE directory, you can manage your preferences through your account profile or by contacting NACE Customer Service by email at customerservice@naceweb.org, by phone at +1.610.868.1421, or by letter to NACE, 1 E Broad Street, Ste 130 – 1005, Bethlehem, PA 18018-5934 USA.

European Union Privacy Rights
We are headquartered in the United States. If you are based in the EU, in certain circumstances, you have additional rights under the GDPR in relation to your Personal Information.

  • Request access to your Personal Data: You may have the right to ask us not to process your Personal Data for marketing purposes. We will usually inform you if we intend to use your Personal Data for such purposes or is we intend to disclose your information to any third party for such purposes.
  • Request correction of your Personal Data: You may have the right to obtain without undue delay the rectification of any inaccurate Personal Data we hold about you.
  • Request erasure of your Personal Data: You may have the right to request that Personal Data held about you is deleted.
  • Request restriction of processing your Personal Data: You may have the right to prevent or restrict processing of your Personal Data.
  • Request transfer of your Personal Data: You may have the right to request transfer of Personal Data directly to a third party where this is technically feasible.

By opting in to receive promotional emails from NACE, you knowingly and affirmatively consent to the processing of your personal information by NACE websites prior to providing such data. By opting in to receive promotional emails from NACE, you demonstrate a clear affirmative act that you consent to the use, storage, processing and transfer of your personal information in accordance with this Privacy Statement.

You have the right to access your personal data collected by NACE websites at your request. Consent may be withdrawn at any time and upon request your personal information will be deleted.

California Privacy Rights
For California residents only. California Civil Code requires select businesses to disclose policies relating to the sharing of certain categories of your Personal Data with third parties. If you reside in California and have provided your Personal Data to NACE, you may request information about our disclosures of certain categories of Personal data to third parties for direct marketing purposes. Such requests must be submitted to NACE Customer Service in one of the following ways:

Children’s Privacy
Our Sites are not directed to children under the age of 16. If you are not 16 years of age or older, do not use our Site.
