Membership Marketing Assistant

National professional organization seeks marketing assistant for membership recruitment and marketing projects. Responsibilities include responding to inquiries for membership, mailing lists, and other products/services; qualifying and following up on leads; analyzing market research; developing reports; and assisting with marketing campaigns. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with customer databases. Skills needed are sales/marketing, analysis, strong verbal/written communication, organizational and customer service skills, and ability to multitask.  BA/BS degree preferred in business/marketing or equivalent experience.

The Membership Marketing Assistant supports the Director of Membership & Marketing in the recruitment and retention of members as well as executes assigned marketing projects. The assistant responds to telephone and e-mail orders and inquiries for sales of association membership, mailing lists, and other products and services. The MMA will prospect and qualify business leads; analyzes and evaluates business metrics and will complete regular business reporting.


Principal Duties/ Responsibilities/ Expectations

  1. Responds to inquiries concerning membership, mailing lists, and other services.
  2. Works with Assistant Director of Membership to implement campaigns directed at renewing lapsed and expired members.
  3. Processes memberships and mailing list orders. Processes orders.
  4. Identifies prospect opportunities through events, online store, SalesForce, etc. Follows up with membership information.
  5. Develops strategy to contact prospects who attend programs and/or purchase products and services.
  6. Makes cold calls and follow up to qualify leads.
  7. Calls lapsed members for renewals.
  8. Backup for switchboard coverage.
  9. Analyses market research and membership metrics to make fact-based recommendations
  10. Completes monthly/quarterly business analysis and reporting
  11. Completes other marketing projects as assigned (i.e. developing sales support materials and executing promotional plans)

Required Knowledge and Skills

  1. Strong analytical skills
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  3. Ability to multitask and work efficiently under deadline.
  4. Strong organizational skills
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  6. Familiarity with order processing systems or data bases. Knowledge of membership database programs a plus.
  7. Knowledge of NACE products and services in print and online
  8. Selling, cross selling, and problem solving skills.
  9. Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) or Sales Force Automation (SFA) systems helpful.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  1. 3-5 years business experience, with at least two years sales or marketing experience
  2. Excellent, articulate, personable and diplomatic customer service skills.
  3. Goal oriented and self-motivated
  4. Demonstrated initiative and entrepreneurial spirit, with the ability to make decisions with little or no guidance
  5. Flexibility and sound judgment to efficiently manage priorities
  6. Exceptional attention to detail and desire for quality work
  7. Positive and constructive approach to issues, with adaptability to change
  8. Friendly and engaging personality; team player; professional appearance and demeanor
